Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross c. March 1822 - March 10, 1913) Conductor of the Underground Railroad. Abolitionist. Political Activist. Woman of God.
Born into slavery, Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom, then led hundreds of enslaved freedom using the abolitionist network known as the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War, she served the Union Army as a scout and spy. She was an activist in the struggle for women’s suffrage. In her later years, she founded a convalescent home for formerly enslaved people. She was a woman of profound faith who once wrote, “God’s time is always near. He set the North Star in the heavens; He gave me the strength in my limbs; He meant I should be free.”
